Agree with a couple of others, Rockford Files and Columbo . Didn't watch them when they originally aired because i was in school and had better things to do , work being one.
Best series to watch to mock and rag on , even better after a couple of beers , Mannix. Liked to watch the later Benny Hill Shows. In the mid 60's when i was still in elementary schools i liked Leave it to Beaver .Tops would be 3 Stooges with Shemp , not Curly.

Well, I should have specified "regular" TV series. I was not including HBO or Starz mini-series like Sopranos, True Blood, Spartacus, Deadwood, Rome and The Wire. Of the regular TV series I still have to go with NYPD Blues and Gunsmoke.

When I was a kid it was the Wallace and Ladmo show. It was the longest continuous show in America (I think 35 yrs) It was a local show on Channel 5 in Phoenix AZ.
At one time or another it was Laugh-in Star Trek Hill Street Blues NYPD Blue House

Assuming you also cut out things like the Simpsons, that cuts me down to the Star Treks and Lost. I'll go with Lost.

David Milch is developing a new series for HBO called "Luck" about the horseracing industry. The pilot for "Last of the Ninth," a return to police drama, didn't sell. The question with him is whether it will be terrific or indecipherable like John from Cincinatti

I've never seen the Simpsons but I know a lot of people like it and one of the creators played in the WSOP. I was really hooked on Lost for the first few episodes but lost interest when the plot went from interesting to silly to ridiculous.

I should have specified "regular" TV series and not HBO or STARZ mini-series. I liked the Unit but always fast-forwarded through the back-at-home-wives stuff. I could never get totally in to the Shield but have to admit the series did have an interesting ending. I'm still not sure what we're supposed to think happened next.

Spot on bucko. You nailed Milch perfectly. I saw some interviews where they said he got so stoned/drunk during some of the later episodes of NYPD Blue that he couldn't even write the scripts. Supposedly that was the reason that Jimmy Smitts (Bobby Simone) decided to leave the show. NYPD Blue really went down hill after that. Supposedly Milch was pretty sober when he was working on Deadwood and I would have liked to see them do another season. John for Cincinnati was just too fucking weird for me and I wasn't surprised it went off the air after the first season.

I thought you would like the Simpsons.
Lost got away from itself with FPS and about half of the initial fans were not forgiving.

Hat's off to Blackadder and Fawlty. Two of the funniest things I have ever watched, but short lived once you get used to their style.

Fine, I'll go lobrow.
"Married with Children" and "Malcolm in the Middle" are two of the funniest tv shows I've ever seen, with qualifications.
"Married" jumped the shark when Peggy stopped visibly smoking. "Malcolm" jumped the shark when his voice changed, and jumped it again *with* an extended finger to the audience when the baby came.
